A Clean Home is a Happy Home

Over the years, it has become more and more common for health-conscious folks to consider the dangers of using hazardous products to keep our homes clean. From trying our best not to breathe in (or touch!) these toxic chemicals, to worrying that our children or pets may ingest one of the poisonous substances under our sink, it seems like there are many good reasons to stock our homes with toxin-free cleaning supplies.

But one question remains: Do they do the job? Here’s what the research says about two of our main ingredients:

Vinegar alone can both stop the growth of food-borne bacteria, and kill it. While lemon is also known for mostly* killing mold, bacteria and germs — and it’s a really effective deodorizer!

*Note that lemon has been described as a cleaner to use if you don’t need “a hospital-level disinfectant job”

In fact, one study showed that using a lemon-vinegar combo for cleaning “reduced the number of pathogens to an undetectable level” (Source). It’s important to note, however, that top health experts are telling us that this sort of DIY cleaning solution is not effective against viruses like COVID-19.

Of course, most of us aren’t overly concerned about cleaning our home by hospital standards, so if you’re looking to avoid high-chemical cleaners for your sinks, countertops, bath tubs and more, you may want to give League’s DIY Rosemary-Lemon All-Purpose Cleaning Spray a try.
