Our monthly meetings give black mothers an opportunity to come together and freely express our feelings on various issues surrounding our children, i.e., the criminalization of our black sons and daughters; the school to prison pipeline; police brutality; Post Traumatic Stress Disorder related to the shootings in our community; the mass incarceration of our black children; and the institutional systems in place to further oppress black people. We are strong proponents for facilitating safe and supportive learning environments for our children. Our black children deserve every opportunity to fulfill their God-given purpose.
We strongly believe we can accomplish the positive changes we want to see within the black community through taking responsibility for the well-being of our community and not depending on the government to do for us what we can do for ourselves once the barriers that have been put into place through legislation and practices are removed. We are responsible for restoring the breach in our community, but we must acknowledge the breach was by systematically designed and these systems must be torn down and replaced with restorative systems.
